A long time ago, after the first few leaders died, a strange sickness arose in the clans. LightClan and BreezeClan recovered quickly, thank StarClan, but MistClan and PineClan did not have such luck. Many of their cats died in those days, and not just from the sickness. The leader of MistClan then was Splashstar, and the leader of PineClan was Amberstar. Both leaders wanted only what was best for their clan, and were blind-sighted to the lives and needs of others. The Medicine Cat of MistClan was Bluepoppy, and PineClan was Orangemoon. None of the Medicine cat's herbs could do anything to help their dying clan mates. The cats were scared, and they began attacking each other. LightClan and BreezeClan did not battle, but tried their best to soothe the clan's hostility. That was all they could do. The battles between MistClan and PineClan grew worse, and more cats died. Then, one battle arose, that could have been the destruction of both clans, if it wasn't for a single interference.
---------------------------------------------
Splashstar led her pitiful group of warriors out of BreezeClan territory, and was not surprised to see Amberstar and his PineClan warriors waiting for them at the border. It looked as though every remaining cat from both clans had come to fight. Their hungry, scared eyes glittering wearily as the glared at each other, waiting for the single yowl that would begin the battle. They were equally starving, their skinny frames sticking out from their dull, thin pelts. The stench of sickness nearly drowned out the tension and fear and anger that every cat felt. Splashstar raised her tail. Her clan surged forward, snarling.
The PineClan warriors responded instantly, their harsh war cries ringing out, and echoing through the trees. Every cat was fighting, claws clashing against claws, teeth biting down, fur flying, blood spraying, and yowls sounding. Near the edge of the group of fighting warriors, Splashstar pinned Amberstar to the ground, and bared her teeth into a warning snarl. "How dare you blame MistClan for the sickness!" Splashstar hissed. Amberstar glared at her challengingly, twisting from side to side as he tried to free herself from Splashstar's powerful grip.
"You caught it first! If you wouldn't have been poisoning the prey with it my clan wouldn't be dying!" Amberstar retorted. He thrust upward, pushing Splashstar up, and leaping onto her back, pinning the smaller she-cat down with his greater weight. Splashstar hissed with anger, but she could not fight him off. Her was too big and powerful for her to slip away. "So it'd still be fine if my clan was dying, then wouldn't it?" Splashstar spat bitterly. Amberstar cuffed her sharply over one ear. "As long as PineClan wasn't affected I wouldn't care what clan was dying!" He snarled down at her, leaning in close to her ear. Splashstar hissed with pain and anger as he bit down hard into her shoulder. "Get off me!" She spat. Splashstar twisted violently from side to side, then fell limp. 'Was the sickness weakening her so much that she couldn't fight?' Amberstar wondering, loosening her grip slightly. As his grip loosened, Splashstar slipped away, trying to leap onto his back. Defending himself, and pulsing with anger that he had fallen for her trick, he slammed his shoulder into the she-cat's side, sending her tumbling into the dust. Amberstar froze, only able to stare in horror as the MistClan leader tumbled back, slamming her head back against a stone with such force he heard the sickening crack from several fox-lengths away. He scrambled over to the injured leader. Splashstar was on her side, her sides heaving for a few moments before she gave an awkward shudder and fell limp. She had lost a life. Suddenly Amberstar realized what he had done. He raised his head and gave an agonized call, ordering his warriors to stop fighting at once. At his cry every cat stopped fighting, and saw his reason for stopping them instantly. A startled cry rose from the MistClan warrior's throats, and the MistClan Medicine Cat, Bluepoppy sprang to her leaders side. She nudged her motionless leader, and stepped back, her blue-gray head bowed. "She lost a life," Bluepoppy meowed solemnly. "After this one she will have only one more left. We must stop fighting." She gazed around the clearing, and as she did, a glimmer of starlight flashed across the clearing. A starry red warrior was crouched in the midst of the PineClan and MistClan cats. A StarClan warrior? The starry tom looked up. "I am Lightningstar, a cat of StarClan. We have seen what has become of your two clans, and you must stop fighting. If you don't, your clans will be no more. There is a way to beat the sickness." Lightningstar's gaze flickered from Bluepoppy, to Orangemoon, and back again. "It is not herbs. It is rest. Rest your cats, allow their bodies to recover, and they will survive. And I'm warning you. If this fighting continues, StarClan will wan know know the reason why." He fixed all the clan cats with a warning stare. "Be strong, follow the warrior code, and StarClan will be with you. Good luck, MistClan and PineClan." There was another flash, and the StarClan cat was gone.
After Lightningstar's words, the fighting did stop, and the sickness was gone after many moons. The clans kept living by the warrior code, and StarClan remained with them.
